Guided Reading: Additions to my classroom with Freebie

·
I have added a few additions to my guiding reading block
this year that I currently am loving!
I’ve shared a few pictures on Instagram
and facebook that have struck the interest of many of you!
I’m lovin’ the new way my students “sign up” for centers.
these amazing center signs this summer.
I adapted them a bit to be used for center rotation signs.
First thing in the morning, students place their card on the center sign they’d like to complete.
Simple and easy!  Cards have magnetics on the back.
I smacked those babies on that ugly filing cabinet!
When I took this picture, all students had the same colored card.
They got a little confused by who went where, when, yad, yad….
Each group now has an assigned card color.
Their rotation number also has a color dot to match their card.
No more confusion=happy teacher.
You can grab the signs here.
If you are interested in the student card templates, grab them here.
Just add a fun font with student names, & print on card stock.
Thanks to Lyndsey for letting me share these!
Do you have any students that are drastically below grade level?
This year, I have three friends working on a
Kindergarten level in second grade.
Since they create their own little reading group,
having almost any hour of centers, seat work,
and journaling/silent reading time was just not working.
Normally, I have at least one student well below grade level
and just put items in their individual basket.
This year, it just wasn’t cutting it.
I had to get very detailed and organized to keep my friends on task.
Each student has a Seat Work sheet that helps them remember what to do.
Each number has a matching bag with the items ready to go.
They start with bag #1, then move on through the list as they finish.
#1:  Worksheets
I provide a handful of worksheets in the bag at a time.
They can chose what they do.
They are all worksheets we have gone over and they can do independently.
The worksheet in the bag currently is from Moffat Girls.
{Building confidence is important!}
#2:  CVC Cards
More cards are added weekly as we practice them in group.
My friends can’t currently do them without a little help.
I wrote the word in marker at the top of the cards to help guide them.
They are really good at reading the word, sounding it out,
then writing it as they sound it out again.
Eventually, we will erase the words!
#3: Books
All books in this bag are books we have read in group on their level.
We also re-read one to two of these books on a DAILY basis.
#4:  Sight Words
 (missing from the picture!)
As we are reading our new book of the day,
I keep track of basic sight words that they
 are missing throughout the book.
We add 3-4 sight words a day to our colored notecards.
I have found spending a little money on the colored
helps them practice & keep them nice!
When they come back to reading groups,
this is first thing they do daily!
I’ll be back soon with more guided reading fun!  Including answer some questions I’ve been received from my other other guided reading post from January & July
Make sure you head on over to Katie @ Queen of the First Grade
to enter in this amazing Halloween giveaway!
You will be SET for this fun holiday!
I donated my “All About Pumpkins” unit!
