Dr. Seuss’s Birthday

Today was pretty much like a Monday gone bad.
But I survived.
Here is a picture of some of our projects from the week.
I normally leave the right side open for the classroom next to me.
But today I just decided to take it all over!
The other teacher rarely puts anything up.
And if she happened to do a Dr. S craft,
I figure she can just put them anywhere that there is space left in between our crafts!
I like how it turned out, for my 8 minute job during lunch.
Does anyone else ALWAYS run out of staples when they hang things up?
You would think I would learn to check before hand.

The Lorax pattern is from Miss Elizabeth @ The Adventures of Miss Elizabeth.
Sadly our cute little Lorax’s didn’t get his eyebrows, but oh well!
And of course the cake is from no other than Teri at Cupcake for a Teacher.
As I was putting them up, a first grade class came by.
One kiddo asked, “What is that?”
Another replied, “IT IS THE LORAX!”
Then another student said, “Oh look, it is a cake that looks like Dr. Seuss’s hat.”
The writing below goes with our Lorax.
I found the printable on a blog somewhere, but can’t remember where!
If it was you, let me know!
I ran out of room to put it on the blue.
I also cut the black paper too small.
But I like the way it turned out!

Another 2nd grade class joined us to make the oreo, frosting, and life saver hats!
I had the kiddos guess what we were going to make once they had all their items.
One of my kiddos who rarely listens made the connection:)
We also did Dr. Seuss juice with Hawaiian Punch & Sierra Mist.
Super quick little party.

The day did not end well.
My kiddos did good in the a.m., then sorta lost it.
It was class picture day also.  We have 2 picture days a year.
I never thought I’d be so upset about a student getting suspended.
But during music, a GREAT student got fed up with another student.
This other student requires almost 200% off my energy.
He constantly needs reminders, trying to be a clown, etc.
And is always bugging others for help, etc.
I wasn’t there to see it.  Or who caused what..or what not.
But the great student some how put his hand to the other students face.
And is suspended for a day.
When I saw him being brought into the office,
I asked him quickly what happened.
And he was simply sick of the other student mocking him/copying him.
The minute the other student is out of my sight, its clown city.
He also said the other student did it to him first.
Of course none of this makes it right.
But feel very frustrated that the other student got him to this point.
It makes me feel bad for the great student.
I also know the music teacher lacks in the real teaching/classroom management.
So it makes me wonder what really, really happened.
I’ll be checking in with my students’ on Monday about the incident more,
since we have specials the last block of the day.

  1. Love your Dr. Seuss stuff! And same with me, always run out of staples when hanging things. Why does that happen??! Sorry that your day didn't end too well. At least it's Friday!!

  2. It is always the good ones that get in trouble when they have had enough. Never mind that one is ALWAYS disrupting/ bothering/ taunting. I got my THAT ONE suspended for a 2nd ten day term last week. (this also involves hitting me/ destroying the classroom etc.) I hope your sweetie doesn't get in too much trouble at home. I always run out of staples, and when I don't, I jam the stapler. Happy weekend!

  3. Your crafts are adorable! I am sad for you about the situation with your kiddos. It takes an act of Congress for us to have a student suspended which is very frustrationg!

I hope everything gets resolved on Monday.
