Put a BUBBLE in your Mouth!

I’ve only been with my new group for 3 weeks now, but I already know they LOVE to talk! Seriously.  This is the first year I’ve ever left the first day of school and thought,” Wow!  They talk a lot!”  Normally they give you a few days before they go full force.  Not this group:)  Good thing their teacher LOVES to talk, also!
Kindergarten and First Grade teachers always tell their kiddos to, “Put a bubble in your mouth!” Many of my kiddos STILL say that saying even though I rarely do.  But I decided to use what they already know!
I was influenced by the blurt board you can find all over blogging world!  But, I wanted our little “bubbles” to be hidden!  We stuck them under our desk!  Each bubble contains the kiddos classroom number.
If anyone is “blurting” out, I simply walk by with this container.  And they quickly grab a bubble to put in the cup!

All kiddos start with their bubble on the Bubble Blowing Contenders board!  If he or she loses all of their bubbles at ANY time throughout the week, their bubble will be removed from the contenders list!  On Friday, we will have a bubblicious bubble gum blowing contest for every contender left! {Yes, that’s my fridge!}
If you are interested in trying this out,you can grab the powerpoint here.  The contenders bubbles are the ONLY item editable!  I also made a few different choices for the “board” template!
Here are some quick answers to a few questions I am receiving:
* I used magnets on the board and bubbles.   I think it may have worked a little better to have the “board” on regular paper, verses card stock so the bubble magnets hold a little better.
*I put 2 magnets on the “board” piece on each end.   They both needed trimmed first.  I used the “trimmed” pieces for the gum ball pieces!
*Each student gets 3 bubbles a day. {There are only 3 gumball spaces on the board!}

  1. Such a wonderful idea! This will be a great addition to my classroom management strategies! Question…what are you using to stick the bubbles to the strip on the underside of their desks? Is is velcro dots or do you just use tape each week? Thanks for sharing!

  2. Thanks for sharing! I totally might have to try this because I have a talkative class this year too. We just had another 'what does it mean to respect each other' conversation Friday afternoon.

  3. It seems like we are teaching the same class this year! 😉 I am printing as we speak and can't wait to get this up and running on Tuesday. Thanks for sharing such a great behavior management tool as a freebie!

  4. I always tell my students to put a bubble in it. I love this idea and will be printing ASAP and implementing this week. Hopefully it will help with the chattiness that is going on.

  5. Love this idea!! At the end of the week any students that still have there bubbles on the contenders board, do you give them a prize? It gets so expensive to keep buying prizes every week especially because I have 34 kids!! Or do you do something else besides prizes? Thanks for sharing. 🙂

  6. I have the same issue this year! They are so chatty! I am so starting this on Tuesday. Thank you so much! (Are you sharing your "lost bubbles" tag?) It's so cute!

  7. What a wonderful and too cute idea!!!! My group loves to blurt out answers when they haven't been called on yet or when someone else is trying to answer. I think this will help cut that down! What a great idea!! Question.. what do they get on Friday if they win the bubblegum blowing contest? Also, what do you do if someone who looses all of their bubbles early in the week? I know they loose their bubble from the contender list and can't blow bubbles on Friday but do you continue giving them 3 bubbles each day or are they done until a new week? Maybe what I'm asking makes sense! ha Thanks for sharing this cute idea as a freebie! 🙂

  8. I am definitely going to try this in my classroom… my desks are plastic, so I might have to get velcro or something… I also think it would be great to just have 5-6 bubbles for the entire week (I am so forgetful at the end of the day and probably wouldn't remember to reset them every day)…hmm… I will have to figure out how to make it work in my class. Love it though, thanks!
