Plants….flowers…life cycles….SPRING!

This week our basal story is, “How Groundhog’s Garden Grew.”

Kiddos love this story every year.
I love that it always hits RIGHT when we start plants/flowers in science.
There is nothing better than having every subject in sync with each other.
I try so hard to do this on a weekly basis, but sometimes it is pretty close to impossible.
We discussed the problem and solution of the story.
Kiddos wrote their own responses on sticky tabs.
I read each response.
Kiddos then discussed/shared with their partners whether
each response was a problem or solution in the story and why.
Squirrel and groundhog faces were based off of Erica’s cute little unit.
Kiddos will make their own tomorrow!
Living and nonliving things was a quick review this year
due to covering it on and off throughout first semester.
After we reviewed with making anchor charts, kiddos wrote about it in their journals.
Due to our pencil sharpener being broke, we took a living/non-living walk
the following morning to the work room in order to sharpen pencils.
You.do.what.you.have.to.do.to.survive.
We discussed the differences in what humans/animals need and plants/flowers.

The things I decide to do!

I started this late last week during counseling and stayed late to finish it up.

Kiddos were amazed and excited.

It has been a fantastic visual this week.

I decided not to put the actual labels up yet due using this visual as a

teaching tool + assessment throughout our week.
If you are wondering, yes….

 I stood on chairs…

I stood on the black bookcase….

I stood on the yellow polka-dot table….

and used a finger pointer to “smack” things down.

But no, I didn’t fall!

I chose to create that baby verses pick up little clutter piles that are driving me INSANE!

  1. I love the display of the plant on your wall! I am deciding what to do for living and non/living. I will be teaching it in two weeks. I will definitely keep this display in mind! So cute and they will remember it forever!!

  2. Wow what an amazing and informative display! I really wish I could draw and make anchor charts like that! Just beautiful! That would take me like 45 minutes and I still wouldn't really like it and if definitely wouldn't look that awesome. Props to you! I'd love to come on in your room for spring!
