What the heck happened to Snowy the Snowman?! {States of Matter}

·
Now that we have learned how to change matter with our hands,
it was time to use our minds to learn all about how heat can change a solid!
Last year, I used ideas from here.
I loved how the little light bulbs went off when we talked
 about a melting snowman!
It just happened that our reading skill for last week
was cause and effect again.
{I should say I planned this out to happen both times, but I didn’t!}
Perfect timing to hit a ton of skills in one activity.
During a plan period, I was thinking hard on a new activity
and decided to bust into my cabinet of a million-and-one foam pieces.
I need a foam piece awareness program.
I should not be allowed to buy one more pack on sale.
I have a serious addiction.
I was too embarrassed to even show you:)
While my kiddos were at specials,
I came up with this little ditty.
By mixin’ and matching foam piece sets, this was a
very quick & easy craftivity!
No cutting.  No gluing. No pattern tracing. Nothing!
Peel & stick….Peel & stick!
{besides the sun!}

After we created our display, we got busy writing about what the heck
 happened to Snowy the Snowman?!
We hit on a few of our grammar/writing goals for the week hard!

After our shared writing, my kiddos used what they learned about
 solids + heat to write a cute, little story!
We discussed how even though our characters are make believe,
we were using REAL information in our story about
states of matter and heat!
As an extension, we zoomed in on the cause and effect of our stories.
