Draw Write Now! No more, “I can’t draw this!”

·
I love to teach writing.
It is one of my favorite parts of the day.
Most kiddos eventually leave my classroom loving to write, also.
I’ve learned over my 5 years of teaching that if a kiddo gets frustrated creating an illustration,
it can lead to the kiddo losing interesting in the project!
Especially when their teacher is, “Just the best artist in the world!”
I hate hearing the words, “I CAN NOT DRAW THIS!”
Barker Creek gave me the opportunity to test out their
 Draw Right Now program.
You may have seen it on Educents the last few days.
{Fantastic value over there!}
The full set contains 8 books and a nice little book holder (not shown)
A break down of each book is listed below!
I sat down yesterday afternoon and
decided to break open this amazing packet.
Some of you are saying in your head,
“That Bubbly Blonde chick is out of her mind.
I’ve seen some of her anchor charts, she can already draw.”
Big secret here.  I am a VERY visual drawer.
I almost ALWAYS google an image before I start to “doodle it up.”
And I call it “doodling it up” because I rarely just “draw” anything!
I am more of a light sketcher to create my images.
I will also re-do them about 5 times until I get it JUST right.
This time, I didn’t do that.  I went step by step and attempt to erase very minimal so you could get the “real” feel of the books.
I wanted to test this set out on a kiddo.
Except I only have 2 dog kiddos who were unwillingly to participate;)
This sweet girl will be starting preschool this year.
We didn’t do too bad copying my letters, either!
Snapshots of little parts of the books that I love!
Barker Creek was generous to donate a full set of Draw Write Now
to one lucky viewer!
{$100 value!}
Giveaway ends on Sunday, August 11th.

  1. I have been eyeing these for some time! I know the kids will go crazy over these!! They love to illustrate their stories!

  2. I would love to incorporate them in my writing center. I actually own volume 1 and have wanted the set for a long time, but it was just something "extra" I couldn't get. Thanks so much for this opportunity!

  3. I have used some of these with my " shy" writers and artists. It is amazing how drawing a simple picture can spark wonderful stories! I have one book, but would LOVE the set. Thanks for hosting this opportunity! 🙂

  4. I have used some of these with my " shy" writers and artists. It is amazing how drawing a simple picture can spark wonderful stories! I have one book, but would LOVE the set. Thanks for hosting this opportunity! 🙂

  5. I think some children like to learn things step by step…so this directed drawing series would be perfect for them!

  6. We give "direct instruction" for everything else we do, why not drawing? The times I have used this my kiddos, they loved it! They continued to draw more confidently after that!

  7. I am a horrible artist so these would give me and the kids some help with our artistic ability. I think it would make the not so artsy ones more at ease and willing to try a little more.

  8. Sooo if I've ever seen a giveaway a really need this one would be it. I try really hard, I use appropriate colors, I listened in art class….but it all doesn't come together. I have kids giggle at my drawings…for real. I tell them I'm not perfect at everything (gasp! I know!) but it makes them feel better about their own illustrations. This would be super awesome for me and my kids! Great giveaway!

  9. I think this will really give confidence to my students. I get so sad when I hear them say they can't draw, hopefully this will encourage them to try. Plus it will add excitement to writing!

  10. I always have kids that either can't draw or are amazing artists (or think they are). I rarely have kids in between. This would be amazing for my not so good kids (and myself).

  11. I think the drawing will help inspire the kids to write. I think the step-by-step directed drawing will help the kids be successful in their drawings, as well.

  12. Drawing has been a frustration for me and my anchor charts show that. I hope to add a layer to my teaching. The students would really appreciate the steps to create an illustration.

  13. I am not great at drawing. This set would help me create beautiful anchor charts. Also, I usually have a few kids who never want to illustrate their writing pieces because they think they are bad at it. I think these books would give them more confidence.

  14. These books would be a great addition to my classroom. They would help make my anchor charts more appealing, and students would feel more successful in their attempts to draw! Love, Love, Love!

  15. There are so many kids who would rather draw than write…these books would give them the best of both worlds! I've heard such good things about this set…I would love to have them to use.

  16. What a fab giveaway!!! Thanks! These books are phenomenal!!! I lack in the artistic department, so these would really give the artistic side of me a boost of confidence. Most of all my students would really enjoy sharing their talents with their parents and those students with needs can definitely feel proud of their accomplishments.

  17. So excited to see this giveaway! These books are perfect for my kiddos. They would be a great addition to the writing center!

  18. I love these books! Thank you for the awesome giveaway! I can't draw at all. These books would help me and my students1

  19. I'd love to win the set of books! I often google images too when making anchor charts… sometimes I just print the image and use it if I'm having a frustrated-artist moment;-)

  20. So often kids will choose not to write about a certain topic because they are unsure how to draw it. I think this would empower and increase confidence. I would also hope these skills would transfer into more open ended writing experiences. Would LOVE to win..

I'm also loving your new blog look!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  21. What a great giveaway! This is exactly what I need. I am not so hot at drawing and I could use all the help I can get. My firsties would LOVE it, too! Win, Win!

  22. I could use this with my pen pals, and since I'm new to 3rd grade, I am making all new charts! This would start me off on a talented note! (Although, then…people would think I could actually draw!)

  23. I would incorporate this into my writers workshop when I discuss adding more details to your illustration. I too would love to use this for my own drawings for anchor charts. 🙂

  24. These books look fabulous. I can see them used at the writing center for independent writing and art. I feel so bad that there seems to be so little time for the kiddos to engage in art and drawing projects.

I love to draw, craft, and engage in art endeavors. I LOVE to give students the opportunity to do these things as much as possible. There is nothing quite like the practice of "creating"

  25. Well….I am a Google drawer too. I have to see what I need to draw before I draw it. My kids think that I am Picasso! I think this set would be a perfect addition to my implementation of the 6 Traits this year. Drawing is so critical to making their little stories come to life! Thanks for such a great give-away!!! My fingers are crossed.

  26. Super cute idea!! I started reading your post and I could totally relate! My firsties always do the same thing!! I would absolutely be able to incorporate this and help my kiddos build confidence in their illustrations!

  27. I am NOT an artist…that is why I became a teacher. However, some students will spend the entire time working on their illustration, and others will leave the illustration blank and write a wonderful paragraph. Having the opportunity to help the students bring these two skills together would be a wonderful gift.

  28. I'm a homeschool mom and would love to have this set for my daughter. She LOVES to draw and this would help me incorporate writing into her drawing time.

  29. I have been looking at this set of books all summer! I am not a good artist but I can follow step-by-step directions. I would use this book from the very first day and integrate it into all subject areas. I think these books help break down drawings into manageable pieces that my kinders will be able to follow.

  30. This set will definitely be helpful during Writer's Workshop. It would make them confident to draw and help make them excited about their writing. I would also use the set in our "Work on Writing" station. Thanks for the chance to win!

  31. The Barker Creek books are great! I would love to have the entire set since our district only funds itinerant art teachers at my school every other year. That means I am the art teacher for my class this year & I am by no means an artist!

  32. I too teach second grade and hear that comment quite often. This set of books would build confidence in the reluctant writers. A student could start with an illustration and then write about it. Students could also make illustrations for other students to write about. That would be fun for all!

  33. I have heard sooo many good things about these books, and think my artistic daughter and son would really benefit from using them in our homeschool. Great review, thank you for all the detail!

  34. Like you, I am a visual drawer and need this kind of image. A colleague has one of these books and I would be so excited to win a whole set and use them with students and colleagues. Thanks for offering this giveaway! Happy new year to you!
