Rockin’ Reindeer Fun + ABC Order Freebies

This week has flown by!
I’ve been attempting to squeeze in every last project possible.
But with the big blizzard coming our way yesterday,
my kids were off-the-wall-crazy.
So crazy….that I drove straight to get a massage after school.

The blizzard hit at dismissal today and it was a rough drive home!
And no school tomorrow.
Normally, I’d be jumpin’ for joy.
Not this time.  This teacher has too many things she wants to do!
Our parent projects aren’t 100% done.
My room is a mess.  We haven’t made one Santa, yet!
But….I will love sleeping in!
We’ve been working through my Rockin’ Reindeer Unit.

The kiddos LOVE this book.

We started off the story going over some vocabulary words that are included in my unit.

A few pages into the book,

we made our predictions on why the reindeer go on strike.

{And I forgot the picture…boo..I blame the crazy blizzard}

We also used our vocabulary cards for a quick

and non-fancy cause/effect check in small groups.

The above level kiddos also used the cards to

help them with some reciprocal teaching skills.

For writing center, we wrote all about the animal that

WE think would make the best replacement for the reindeer and why.

{again..no picture…please use imagination here!}

We also used the centers included in the unit!

Reindeer clip-art make our skills so much more fun:)

Here is two ABC order freebies.

We then created the reindeer craftivity in my unit!
In order to be able to get everything in,
I did most of the pre-cutting besides a few pieces.
We weren’t 100% done with our writing piece when I took these pictures.
I liked how Cheryl @ Primary Graffiti displayed hers,
so I went with that look!
But glued the reindeer onto opposite sides to create a pattern on my wall.
The following day, we learned all about caribou!
We had a LOT of questions about caribou
and many of us had never heard the word before!
We were amazed at this site.
We also read the book by Gladys in her Reindeer Magic Unit!
After we finished the “L” on the KWL chart,
we then turned it into a 3-2-1 checkout sheet.
A huge question we have is, “Why do they have antlers?”

Next, we made reindeer food!

We used whole cooked oats and red/green sprinkles!
Did you know that glitter is harmful to animals?

I had the oats stored away from last year when we never got to it!

Our reindeer food was put into a ziploc baggie and then into our brown sack.

We then created the cute topper.

This will help to make sure we don’t open it before Christmas Eve!

{A sibling of a student likes to stop by to visit, especially when she’s suppose to be some where else.  She informed me that her sister told her to put the reindeer food in the yard.

I said, “Yes, on Christmas Eve.”

Her sister started to laugh and said, “WHAT?! K did it last night!”

Maybe the reindeer will come early?:)

We also created the cute little reindeer head on the anchor chart.

And wrote about our steps!

You can purchase the reindeer food header, reindeer header

and writing sheets in this fantastic unit!

{I’ll be back tomorrow with Mooseltoe and some freebies!}

  1. Thank you for those cute ideas! I saw your button on the "Teaching in High Heels" blog. I am a new blogger and would love to get my name out there in the teacher blogging world. I am a K teacher right outside of Nashville (Franklin). I am having a difficult time tapping in and friending other teacher bloggers 🙂 Any advice/shout outs would be tremendously appreciated!
    Thanks so much!
