Spookley the Square Pumpkin + Writing FREEBIE

We started off pumpkin week reading this adorable ‘lil story.

I just adore little Spookley!
After reading the story, we brainstormed adjectives that describe Spookley.
I made a very ugly anchor chart:)
We discussed how important each pumpkin was
and how we are all different.
Kiddos then went to town creating their own “special pumpkin.”
I was a little *terrified* to give them 100% free range.
But I just went with it.
They were allowed to use one “new” piece of paper
for the “body” of their pumpkin.
To decorate, they had to use friends scraps or paper from the scrap drawer.
I cut NO pumpkins for them.
I figured I’d have some kiddos in tears due to wanting it to be “perfect,”
but not with this group!

After their pumpkins were decorated, kiddos picked adjective labels to glue on to their pumpkin.
This idea plus the Spookley anchor chart,
came from the lovely Randi @ Teaching with Class.
Sadly, she can no longer sell the unit.

You can kind of see our little Spookley with our adjectives glued on!
I forgot to take a picture of just him!

During plan time today, I put together this:

See the little label for 55 pieces.
They are not lying!
Crazy buckets did this thing challenge me!

Let’s just say, any future kid of mine better be able to put things together like this on their own!

The box pretty much told you to just use the picture and regular glue.
HA!  Hot glue gun baby! I also burned my finger in this process.

Why the heck do I need this do you ask?
Well, a Spooky Story Writing Center!
I can not wait to have my kiddos brainstorm adjectives to describe this scene.
They will then write a Spooky Story using some “scary” writing prompts!
Want to have your kiddos write a Spooky Story?
Click on the picture below to get a freebie!
It includes a scary Haunted House scene
(in case you don’t want to hot glue your finger!)
And  8 different writing prompts!
